'99 manual "maximum engine speed recommendation" states:
First 500 miles -
1st: 20 mph
2nd: 30 mph
3rd: 45 mph
4th: 55 mph
Top: 60 mph
500 - 1000 miles -
1st: 25 mph
2nd: 40 mph
3rd: 55 mph
4th: 70 mph
Top: 75 mph
I just broke the 500 mile mark on mine and it's been doing some sporadic coughing, sputtering, and backfiring...normal from what I've read on here. I don't plan to do any engine modifications on mine until the warranty period is up.
